Choosing Playwright, Cypress or Selenium for Your Team

9 min readBy Elmonds Kreslins

There is no single winner for every team

We specialise in test automation with Playwright, Cypress and Selenium. The right choice depends on your browsers, languages, CI constraints and who will maintain the suite. Below is how we decide on client projects.

Playwright

Our default for most new web suites. Strong multi-browser support, fast parallel runs, solid API and UI testing in one toolkit, and first-class GitHub Actions integration. See our Playwright page and getting started guide.

Cypress

Excellent when your team is JavaScript-heavy and wants a fast feedback loop in local development. Great for component and end-to-end flows in modern frontends. We use it when the existing codebase or team preference already centres on Cypress. See Cypress and Cypress vs Playwright.

Selenium

Still the right answer for some enterprises: polyglot stacks, large existing Selenium grids, or strict browser matrices that are already invested. We modernise and maintain Selenium suites rather than rewriting them without a reason. See Selenium and Playwright vs Selenium.

How we deliver

Whichever framework you choose, the delivery pattern is the same: critical-path coverage first, CI gates before merge, stable selectors, and reporting your team can act on. Details on our test automation service and testing tools hub.
